Principles

  1. It is the student's responsibility to identify, utilise and pay for appropriate travel to and from placements.
  2. Placement expenses for students in receipt of an NHS bursary will be refunded in line with the NHS Business Services Authority (SBA) guidelines.
  3. Seconded students should approach their employer in relation to any placement expenses.

Travel Insurance for students

The University’s travel insurance is available for students travelling as part of their course of study i.e. placement, if the journey requires the student to obtain overnight accommodation away from their normal place of residence. Details of the cover and access to relevant documentation, including certificate of insurance, are available on the university’s intranet at http://fls.jamkit.com/Insurance/Travel-1 Students are not obliged to accept the cover and may elect to take out their own insurance should they wish to do so.

Motor insurance cover for vehicle use

For students using their own motor vehicle, you will also be expected to obtain confirmation from your insurers that adequate cover is in place for all costs and claims and that no liability is placed on the University or any NHS body. You are required to complete the Placement Planning Form in PEMS to confirm that adequate insurance cover has been obtained.
