Practice Education Unit (PEU)
Practice education is critical to the current provision and future development of health and social care professional education courses. It may account for up to 50% of the pre-qualifying health and social care programmes depending upon professional statutory regulatory body requirements. Placements are dependent upon the funding sponsor (e.g. NHS Strategic Health Authorities [SHAs]), professional requirements, student progression regulations and placement availability..
Placements are provided by the NHS, Social Care and Social Services, the private, independent and voluntary sector and within osteopathic clinics provided by the School. All placement experience is quality assured through approved processes. For NHS placements, specific placement locations are determined by the relevant SHA contract. Social Work student placements are predominantly in Oxfordshire, however, there are occasions when placements are secured in other parts of the UK and abroad.
The Practice Education Unit (PEU)
The PEU provides administrative and academic support for placement learning/practice education for all pre-qualifying courses (including Fd(Sc) Paramedic Emergency Care).
The PEU is led by the Head of Practice Education, Netta Lloyd-Jones and is a key resource for students and staff and a central point of contact for pre-qualifying students and those supporting them whilst they are on placement. PEU implements processes agreed in partnership with placement providers and supports placement learning quality assurance.
Practice Education Management System (PEMS)
PEMS is for students, staff and placement providers and provides an online service to view and update the practice education elements of programmes.
