Fantasy play helps creative thinking in children
Engaging in fantasy play could benefit creative thinking in children. This is one of the findings of a study presented yesterday, Thursday 15 September, by Dr Louise Bunce at Oxford Brookes University, to the annual conference of the British Psychological Society’s Developmental Psychology Section in Belfast.

Brookes to jointly host international conference on healthcare
This week (6-9 September) Oxford Brookes will jointly host the eighth international conference on interprofessional practice and education (IPE); the first time in 10 years it has been hosted in Europe. The conference, All Together Better Health (ATBH), is the leading global IPE conference, bringing together healthcare providers and industry leaders, educators, students and policymakers to advance interprofessionalism locally, regionally and worldwide.

The Placement of the Year Awards celebrate excellent placements and learning environments provided by health and social care providers from 350 placement providers, including local NHS Trusts the Oxford Radcliffe University Hospitals NHS Trust, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as well as placement providers in London, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and Gloucestershire.

Student midwife recognised at national awards
An inspirational student midwife was honoured this week for her passion and commitment at a prestigious awards ceremony in Central London. Jane Carpenter was recognised by Cavell Nurses’ Trust for her enthusiasm, commitment and hard work in her midwifery studies and wins a £1,500 prize fund to put towards a travel placement of her choice, enabling her to further develop her skills as a midwife.

Treasure hunting in Special Collections
Dr Elizabeth Casson opened the first School of Occupational Therapy in 1930, which joined Oxford Brookes University in 1992. Dr Casson was awarded a gold Gaskell Medal in 1927 for scholarship in clinical psychiatry. The medal was donated to the University by a member of Dr Casson’s family and complements the Dorset House Archive, which records the history of the School.
