Professor June Girvin

Professor Emeritus

June is Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. She is a Registered Nurse, holds a Masters Degree from Cardiff University College of Medicine, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies (with Distinction). Until March 2017 she was Pro Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean of the Faculty.

June's expertise is in leadership and management (in higher education and in health care), and power and politics in relation to the profession of nursing. She has published extensively on nursing management and leadership in professional journals and has authored two books.  She has a particular interest in the public understanding of nursing and her latest publications on this include:

She is a mentor and role model for the Florence Nightingale Foundation Aspiring Leaders Programme and a recent role model and mentor for the Higher Education Leadership Foundation's Aurora Programme.

She has served as an appointed Governor for Oxford University NHS Trust and Oxford Health NHS Trust, as an elected member of the Executive body of the Council of Deans of Health UK, and as a Board member of the Oxford Academic Health Sciences Centre.

June has completed the Higher Education Leadership Foundation's Top Management Programme and the CASE study tour of Canada, looking at Advancement and Alumni Relations practise in universities in and around Toronto, Ontario. In 2013 she was a participant in the Women's Leadership Forum at Harvard Business School.
